Specifically, from Timothy Goodman and Jessica Walsh , who put themselves under the microscope when they dated each other for 40 days by keeping diaries, and then publishing said diaries online, one day at a time. Now the original blog, along with heart-wrenching new journal entries from the months following, becomes the book, 40 Days of Dating: An Experiment Abrams.
Friends first, they both thought 40 days of sincere dating might help them break some long-standing romantic habits. They agreed to a set of rules to keep the project intact, one of which was to keep daily journal entries.
Today’s career interview is with the amazing Timothy Goodman. You may know him from his 40 Days of Dating project (more on that in the interview), but he’s.
Having both struggled with opposite relationship problems in the past, they decided to date each other for 40 days as a social experiment last spring. So you may or may not have heard of the 40 Days of Dating project. Spend time with your project every day anywhere from minutes. In lieu of seeing a couples therapist, choose a book or some sort of tutorial to improve your craft or help you do your best work. Spend at least one hour a week on this. In Dear Diary fashion, create and take a daily questionnaire or write in a journal.
You can include whatever questions you think would be beneficial. Go on a weekend trip choose a weekend to get away and spend all your time with your project. No cheating no spending time on other things, including other projects. As you may know, when it comes to my creative projects, I suffer from Shiny Wrapper Syndrome.

I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. As a kid, my heroes were characters like Ferris Bueller and Zack Morris, and I reveled in the idea of pulling a fast one on somebody in authority. At one point, I had skipped Spanish class 28 days in a row and had a 0. I was all about partying and girls, and I had no focus. After barely graduating high school, I started working for a guy named Dave, who ran a painting and home improvement company.
He was my first great mentor and is still like a father to me to this day. I think a big part of why I acted out so much as a kid was because I was missing that kind of figure in my life, so it was a really profound experience to have him fill that void. Over the next four years, Dave taught me really fundamental skills like painting, tiling, and drywalling during the day, while I took classes at community college for interior design at night.

Jessica Walsh’s view on success is simple: “Success to me is doing what I love, continuing to learn and grow, and having fun doing it,” she says. For a personal project, aptly named Forty Days of Dating fortydaysofdating. After they launched the private journal entries of their dates on a blog, it went viral, receiving 8 million visitors since launch. They’ve just finished writing a book, and have sold the rights to the film.
