Ryan glitch speed dating
Weekend Jedi warrior Ryan Glitch is the year-old owner of Sci-Fi Speed Dating , which in three years has organized hundreds of speed-dating events at dozens of super-fan conventions. He left before the session finished. Later that year, he emailed the organizers of Stars Wars Celebration V to suggest they try speed dating. I told them I had. But I had not. Well, live meagerly, I should say.
Seeking: Jedi master. He does say, however, Sci-Fi Speed Dating is more specialized than generalized speed dating. You understand the passion. Before the session, Glitch gathers the women and does a spiel about a safety gesture in case of any bad date — where they feel uncomfortable or harassed. In that case, Glitch will get the signal and ask that bad date to leave. He runs a similar pre-date talk with the guys and asks everyone in the room to be respectful.
His events have resulted in known marriages, over 50 couples currently engaged and 29 babies in Canada and the U. It was at a similar geek speed dating event three years ago where he, in his usual Star Wars Jedi garb, met his wife — dressed as Xena: Warrior Princess — and six months ago, came over to the dark side, so to speak, by tying the knot.
Here’s How Geeks Find Love At New York Comic Con
For “Star Wars” fans who are looking for love in Alderaan places, Ryan Glitch has a solution: sci-fi speed-dating, which he hosts at Comic-Cons around the country. In five years of geek speed-dating, the events have led to couples who are dating seriously; 43 couples who are currently engaged; and 74 couples who have tied the knot. There was another con coming up, so he suggested a speed-dating event.
Glitch met his girlfriend at one of his events. When asked about his favorite “Star Wars” relationship, Glitch quickly dismisses Anakin and Padme “he wound up killing her, so that’s probably a bad one”. She’s not impressed by him, but she is enamored by him.
The events have spawned hundreds of couples and 19 babies, creator Ryan Glitch says.
Imagine a room full people all looking to meet someone that they can connect with. So what is Sci-Fi Speed Dating? Those people I mentioned? Most if not all are in cosplay in one form or another. It happened, I promise. There seems to be a stigma associated with speed dating, that it is somehow a bad thing for people who have a hard time meeting others to get together in a format like this and try and make a connection.
Why is that so bad?

The cautiously optimistic speed daters enter the all-geek dating game with the hopes that they will meet someone who not only accepts them for who they are, but someone who also shares their same interests. I was a little wary before watching the special that the geeks would be mocked for their passion for Harry Potter and the like, but I was pleasantly surprised that the shows instead portrayed them as sensitive, real people who have just as much of a chance at finding love as the non-geeks out in the world.
Geek Love not only follows the quick interactions of speed-dating — we also get to see the first dates of those lucky enough to find a match. Their first dates are filled with playing video games, rapid-fire discussions of movies and books, and even comparing notes on cosplay. Watching the nervous convention attendees make some of their first forays into dating reminded me of how lucky I am to have found a fellow nerd to share life with.
